Inner Circle Promotes Creative Opening Lines With The Guardian

Written by Dominic Whitlock

Inner Circle has teamed up with The Guardian to help users become more creative when starting new conversations with their matches.

The collaboration with the British newspaper comes as part of the ‘Try More Than Hi’ campaign that was launched last month. New software will detect when someone is trying to send a one-word opening message and then automatically replace it with a unique chat up line.

A range of in-house writers, influencers and The Guardian community have helped to create the lines which should hopefully result in a more positive response rate.

Data from Inner Circle found that just 12% of people will respond to messages like “Hi” and “Hey”.

A spokesperson for the dating company told The Guardian: “‘Hey’ is the easy option, but it’s a poor conversation starter, because it makes it really hard to reply with anything other than a ‘hey’ back.

“The first message you send should be more about them than you. If you’ve gone to the effort of actually reading their profile and asking them a question about it, that will be the message that stands out, and the one they put more effort into replying to.”

Readers of The Guardian are now eligible to receive a free one-month premium subscription to Inner Circle.

At the end of September, Inner Circle became one of the first dating apps to create a homepage widget for devices that support iOS 14. The update offers a fast way to keep up to date with potential matches and access their profiles.
