Bumble Adds New Profile ‘Interest Badges’

Written by Dominic Whitlock

Bumble has added new Interest Badges to help users quickly and easily show their matches what their main passions and hobbies are.

There are a total of 150 possible interests to choose from, but singles are only able to pick a maximum of five to display on their profile. Some of the available options include partying, photography and different sports.

Localised Interest Badges were also created so Sufi, Biryani or Bollywood Music are available specifically in India to create stronger connections.

Priti Joshi, Vice President of Strategy and Operations at Bumble, explained in a statement: “As a platform that’s rooted in kindness, equality, and inclusivity, we encourage our community to be their most authentic self when making connections on Bumble.

“People can now add new Badges to their profiles that show off their personality and allow potential matches to get to know them better.”

Some of the Badges help users show support for social causes as advocates might only be interested in matching with people who share the same views as them.

This latest update comes at a time when Bumble users are ready to start meeting their matches in-person again. Especially in the UK, the success of the vaccine roll out has led to singles planning dates as the lockdown restrictions are eased.

OkCupid added a ‘Climate Change Advocate Profile Badge’ to celebrate the start of Earth Month. The dating app committed to donating $1 for every profile that adds the badge up, to a maximum of $25,000, to EarthDay.org.
