Grindr Starts Production on Original Series ‘Bridesman’
Grindr has announced that it is in the process of producing it own original series, to enhance LGBTQ representation and offer something new for its community of users to connect over.
‘Bridesman’ will be made up of six 10-minute episodes which are due to be released in the autumn, both in-app and on Grindr’s YouTube channel.
Information about the storyline is relatively sparse at this stage, although the premise is focused on a gay bridesman who causes issues at his best friend’s wedding. The show was in pre-production last year, but was halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Alex Black, Grindr’s Director of Marketing, said in a statement: “Bridesman is tailor-made for the Grindr community—it’s smart, queer, campy, and features sharp commentary on gay dating, heteronormative standards, and Grindr itself.
“We are so proud to be showcasing some of the finest talent in the queer community as we continue to find new and creative ways to connect our users.”
A number of popular LGBTQ actors and comedians are lined up for leading roles, including Jimmy Fowlie and Sydnee Washington. ‘Bridesman’ will also feature guest appearances from well-known personalities such as Kim Petras, Calvin Seabrooks and Liva Pierce.
Grindr has been experimenting with unique ways to create new content and connections. This includes ‘Pride Perseveres’ in June and the ‘Fright Now Fest’ over Halloween.
Tinder released its own original series in 2019 which was a choose-your-own adventure that connected users who make similar decisions. Match Group has submitted a patent protection filing for the way that people were matched after the show, but it’s unlikely Grindr’s creation will be an infringement.
