Hinge Encourages Singles to Ignore the Hype of Dating Sunday

Hinge has told singles to ignore the hype of Dating Sunday, encouraging singles to not feel the need to reboot their love life in the New Year.

Research from Hinge shows that the busiest day for dating is actually not the renowned Dating Sunday, but is in fact the first weekend in February. Director of Relationship at Hinge, Logan Ury, said: “Daters take time in January to reflect on their dating life and commit to finding love ahead of the Valentine’s Day holiday. In fact, the top new behavior for 61% of users is taking time to focus on themselves before diving into a relationship”.

When asked how the pandemic affected their relationship goals, more than half (53%) of the Hinge community shared that they’re ready for a long-term, serious relationship. During the pandemic, over 50% of users reported adopting new healthy dating behaviours, including being more honest with their feelings and taking time to focus on themselves before diving into a relationship. Additionally, 81% of Hinge users said they expect to meet their match in 2021 through dating apps.

The top 2021 dating resolution for more than half (53%) of Hinge users is to not overthink their dating life and focus on being in the moment as they find a relationship. In the same sense, one in three (38%) Hinge users report that the pandemic has led to them overthinking the little details.

In 2021, video dating will continue to be a low-key, safe, and efficient way to assess compatibility before meeting up in person. At the beginning of the pandemic, very few Hinge users had been on a video date as it was typically reserved for our most intimate relationships. At this point in time, almost half of Hinge users have been on a video date, and of those users, the majority (52%) say they are likely to continue incorporating video chat into their dating process even when they are able to meet up safely in real life.
